Loren K. Short

Loren K. Short, 84, of Du Quoin, passed away at 10:10 P.M., Saturday, April 19, 2003 at the Fair View Nursing Center in Du Quoin.
Loren was a retired coal miner and had last worked as a driller and truck driver for Consol #1 Mine.  He was a Paratrooper in the U.S. Army and a veteran of W.W. II.  He was a member of American Legion and UMW of A.  He was an avid gardener.  He was of the Baptist faith.
He was born December 8, 1918 in Perry County, IL, the son of George W. and Georgia (Miller) Short.
He married Grace Hackleman Beckham on August 16, 1988 at Paducah, KY and she survives.
He is survived by his wife of Du Quoin, two step daughters - Joan Kuhnert of Pinckneyville and Peggy Lux of Kirkland, WA, two sisters - Lois Hirsch of Du Quoin and Gladys Stanley of Tamaroa, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother - Lester Short.
Funeral services were at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, April 22, 2003 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Bob Dickerson officiating.
Friends called from 5 to 8 P.M., Monday at the Searby Funeral Home.
Interment was in the Sunset Memorial Park at Du Quoin.
